The first version of Cool Ryan Easy Popups will be named “Isis” after the Greek goddess.
Why Isis?
Isis was the Greek (or Egyptian, depending on what you read) goddess of simplicity, among other things. She was coined to be “from what all beginnings rose.”
What I wanted to do with Easy Popups was focus on simplicity.
I noticed that with all the other popup plugins and popup software in general, it was a very cumbersome and technical challenge to setup and implement. From my short time as a programmer in the IM world I have definitely learned this: ” The more complicated you make it, the worse off you are.”
So, I took a look at what all the popup plugins did. And I then took a look at what people actually used. The difference was pretty big.
I have done some integrations for clients with popup software on their blogs, and I saw that even though there were a thousand features inside each of these plugins, I noticed that a lot of it wasn’t even what my clients wanted.
So I went to work. I spoke with clients about what they wanted in a popup plugin. I asked them about big features and small ones. I asked them about what features were “non-negotiable” so to speak. Then I simply stripped out all the rest.
That’s right! If it isn’t really necessary, it isn’t in there. I didn’t want to focus on making it the most robust, (and therefore complicated) plugin out there. Once you install Easy Popups, all you have to do is write your message and you are pretty much done!
Any setting in the options is there because it absolutely “MUST” be there.
Some of the things that got chopped were:
- extra animations that required more options to configure
- Custom Popup styling, (very complicated stuff)
- Popup types, (unders, delays, banners, exits, etc.)
- misc other stuff that isn’t needed…
Does that mean that none of this will ever be in the plugin. Certainly not. But it does mean that for it to be included in future releases, it must be highly desired among the user base before I even consider adding it.
