Magento has all kinds of features available right when you install it. While Magento is primarily a B2C platform, there are many B2B features available as well. These features are available right out of the box with no customization at all.
Bulk ordering is achievable through Magento. When setting up products, you can specify minimum order thresholds.
In the admin panel, go to Catalog->Manage Products. Click on an individual product. Once inside the product edit screen, click on the Inventory tab on the left side. On this tab, there is an element called Minimum Qty Allowed In Shopping Cart. This allows you to ensure that only bulk quantities can be purchased.
You can also specify this order amount in the configuration. The configuration has a more flexible setup of minimum quantity thresholds. It allows you to specify minimum quantities for each customer group.
You can find this setting in Configuration->Catalog->Inventory->Product Stock Options.
When you have large quantities and minimum quantities in the cart, you can specify bulk discounts as well. Magento has very robust and flexible catalog and shopping cart price rules. You can use these rules to specify quantity discounts.
In the admin panel, go to Promotions->Shopping Cart Price Rules. Click the Add New Rule button.
Under the Rule Information section, you can specify customer groups, (which we will cover in more detail below). In the Conditions tab, click the green plus sign () to add a new condition. Select the Total Items Quantity from the dropdown. You can select the comparison to measure the quantity. For this instance, you would select equals or greater than…
Under the Actions tab, you can specify the discount amount that you wish to use. Click the Save button and you are ready!
