The New Year

This year has been quite an interesting one.  A lot of downsides.  Much has been set back, gone wrong, or just plain blew up in my face.  As a result, it is time to move forward.  With a new year’s resolution of simple and easy, I am embracing it to it’s fullest extent!  I am simplifying my life and everything around it.  My plugins will become simple.  My list of plugins will become smaller.  Everything is about to get the fat trimmed.

Stay tuned…

Brand New Plugin: Generate Shortlinks

Ever wanted to use Bit.ly or another URL shortner for easy distribution for your blog posts?  Ever see the new shortlink feature inside of WordPress 3.0?  Now it’s all possible!

Jason Grim and I have created a new plugin for WordPress that does exactly that!  Generate Shortlinks is a plugin that lets you generate short URLs for your blog posts via bit.ly, ur.ly, and is.gd automatically! Project Management Inside WordPress!

In an effort to further simplify my life, I am now putting together a project management plugin for WordPress.  It will be simple and easy to use at first, with more features to either be added, or extended at a later date.

Project managers all have the 4 main pieces.  They are:

  • User Control
  • To Do Lists
  • Messages
  • Due Dates, (or milestones)

These are usually further drilled down.  There are usually a thousand other items to make them unique such as time tracking, issue tracking, billing, invoicing, etc.

My plugin will have:

  • Project Control
  • User Control
  • Time Tracking
  • To do Lists
  • Milestones
  • Messaging

These will be the core components of the software.  More to come in the coming days.

Until Next Time…

Finally Finding Time Again…

After over a month of silence, I am finally back at it.  Projects keep getting the majority of my time, (which is a good thing) but they take away from my plugins and personal projects (which is a bad thing).  I am now making time to update my current plugins and creating all the ones on that monster list I have growing every day in my Plugins Page.

Now that I am getting my time management under control, I have a good game plan.  First, I am going to get all of my tools online and working.  Then, I am going to get all of my open source plugins finished up and on WordPress.  Then, once all that is done, I will begin making and marketing my premium plugins.

Enough chit chat, time to get to work!

Blogroll In Posts, A New Plugin

It’s great to use your blogroll inside of WordPress.  They have a great system setup where you can use categories, XFN attributes and so much more.  The only problem is when you actually want to use the dumb thing.  If you want to utilize your links, you are usually restricted to a sidebar widget.  And if you have large amounts of links, it quickly becomes quite the cumbersome task.

Sure you can utilize a theme that has a linking structure set up.  But now you are limited to only a few links.  Sure, you could go in and create your own theme file, but if you don’t know how to do that, you are screwed.  Enter Blogroll In Posts.

Blogroll in Posts is my new WordPress plugin that easily allows you to add your blogroll into any post or page you want.  You can separate by categories, customize the style, header, and much more.

Head on over and give it a shot.  Thanks!

Combine And Simplify

Looking at separation of my blogs into different categories seems like a great idea.  I can make sure my topics are easily separated.  I can make sure all of my readers know what they are getting.

Then something happened.  I was setting up my blog for my portfolio.  I had setup my pages as necessary.  I then saw that there was an overlap.  No big deal I guess.  Then, I saw something else starting to form. Promotion.

Stepping Softly Into The World Of Child Themes

When you develop for WordPress, you start to pick up on things most blog owners don’t.  That little nag in your theme, that plugin that is missing the one thing you were looking for in the first place. So on and so forth.  So, you begin to look into the code.  You see the change is relatively small, so you make it.  But you know in the back of your head you shouldn’t have, because you know once your little plugin or theme gets updated, U R Screwed.  So, you either redesign the goddamn wheel and make your own when there are plenty of good ones out there already or you make a baby, or child for that matter.

A Word On Greek Mythological Figures

Someone asked me what the hell “Dolos” was in regards to my upcoming “Cool Marketing Plugin”.  I told him that Dolos was the spirit of trickery, cunning deception, craftiness, treachery and guile.  He was greek Mythological figure who was said to trick the greek gods into lying.

“Yea, but what does that have to do with Marketing?” he said.

Marketing is just a form of trickery.  You sell the sizzle, not the steak.  Well, people are buying the damn steak, not the sizzle.  You are tricking them, (even if not maliciously) into a purchase by building up a wow factor.  Sounds like trickery to me.

Finally Figured It All Out

While dealing and battling with what this blog was going to become, I hit a lot of snags in the line.  First, it was a blog to sell my products.  Failed.  Then it became a blog to sell my services.  Failded. Then it became a blog to sell my PLR Videos.  Failed.  Then, it became a personal blog.  Failed.  Then, it became a blog to broadcast my free plugins.  Guess what?  It has been the only thing with any sort of moderate success so far.

So because of this, I will be instead making this blog about my plugins, programming, and all things web coolness.  Hopefully this will be the last change.

Later.
