Different Blogging Platforms

There are a wide variety of Blogging platforms to choose from when you are thinking about creating your first blog.  Here are some of the best solutions for blogging:

WordPress.com
If you want to get your blog up and running right away and want to focus mainly on personal blogging, the best place to go is WordPress.com

WordPress.org
If you want to have more control over how your blog is built and displayed, a self-hosted blog utilizing the WordPress software is a great way to do it.  The installation is easy, but you have to make sure you've covered the basics.

Blogger.com
If you are looking to create a blog that already leverages much of Google's technology, you can easily get started with Blogger.  You can easily integrate Groups, Google+, FeedBurner, and Adsense.

Tumblr
If short-form blogging is for you, then tumblr is right up your alley.  Tumblr is a great platform for microbloggers, ploggers, vloggers, and people who don't have a lot to say in their posts.  If you keep it short and sweet, this is for you.

Micro-Blogging/Misc. Social Media
There are a wide variety of microblogging and social media sites that get what you want done right away.  The obvious choices are Twitter and Facebook.

The true goal here is to make sure you know what kind of blogger you are before you decide what platform that you want to distribute your content from.  It's okay to take your time and really think this one out.

The best thing to think about is to look at what you want your blog to become.  What is the vision for your blog?  If you are just a microblogger now, but want to be a topic blogger later, then it's best to start off with the right platform for topic blogging instead of having to migrate later.
